Coats mean so much more!

Westmoreland Community Action Head Start was the proud recipient of 180 winter coats from Sendell Subaru. The donated coats helped families not only enrolled in Head Start but also from the community. One afternoon we received a call from a father who stated he had 2 children desperately in need of winter coats. Because of the donation we received from Sendell Subaru we were able to accommodate him. He was very thankful for our assistance and even spoke to one of the agency Resource Navigators who assisted the father with food and other resources to better support the family. As far as Head Start goes our Family Advocates have supported multiple enrolled families to ensure their children have the needed items to be successful in and out of school. These items include winter coats thanks to Sendell! It’s the small things that sometimes make a meaningful difference in the lives of families in need by providing them with essential support and helping them navigate difficult circumstances with dignity and compassion. Overall, a winter coat holds significance beyond its practical function of providing warmth for families in our community! Thank you, Sendell Subaru, for your generous contribution!

Sendell Subaru and Latrobe Elementary School

Millions of students lack the supplies and learning materials necessary to be successful in the classroom. This often requires teachers to purchase resources using their own money. Subaru of America believes that all students deserve an equal and fair opportunity at a quality education. March for Parks Celebrates 250th Anniversary of Westmoreland County

Sendell Subaru continues to be a strong supporter of Westmoreland County’s parks and trails. This year they helped to sponsor a very successful march at Twin Lakes Park. The march was also celebrating the 250th anniversary of Westmoreland County with lots of history represented. Historical reenactors, a storyteller and games reminiscent of 1700’s were played as a town crier informed the crowd of the activities scheduled throughout the morning. Participants enjoyed a pancake and sausage breakfast and viewed information from our various sponsors. John Bristline represented Sendell Subaru with a table full of dog treats and toys for all the pups walking the march. We appreciate Sendell’s commitment to the importance of enjoying and preserving our outdoor spaces!

Sendell Subaru Loves Pet

Sendell Subaru hosted “Subaru Loves Pet” event this October. The event proceeds were donated to two hard-working local animal rescues, one being Helping Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue, a foster-based program. Rescue is a much-needed social service that helps protect animals from dangerous situations that often involve cruelty and abuse. Many animals are surrendered due to evictions, health concerns, or other unavoidable circumstances. Sendell’s hosting this event was a great way to get the rescue animals out to meet potential adopters and additional contributions helped to raise proceeds for Little Sloane’s FHO surgery after being hit by a car and she was left along the road. Her surgery went well and her recovery is going progressing smoothly. Sloane is under a year old and still very playful, she has Sendell to thank for the second chance. Sendell Subaru Loves Pets Event had adoptables such as Max, Nomei, Diezel, Lolli and Andy join in at Subaru. Diezel, Lolli and Andy have all found their furever homes since the support of the event. Thank you to the Sendell family, volunteers, and community who donated their time, and others for your help in making this event successful. Sendell's support helps animals in need and with their support, it resulted in 13 adoptions from Helping Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue in the month of October thanks to Sendell. We appreciate all the people who made this possible and an extra special shout out to Heather Beck from Sendell who made this event such a sensation!

Andy

Our newest arrival Andy a one-year-old chocolate lab didn’t even make it back to us from his transport, before he found his forever home. The wonderful couple that transported him to Sendell Subaru fell in love with him immediately. They were already approved fosters, so they were able to take Andy home that night and two days later it was official, Andy was there to stay!!! If it was not for Sendell Subaru hosting Subaru Loves Pets event, this encounter may not have happened and Andy would still be in Helping Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue. He came from a shelter with most of his hair (see the first pic.) After being there for months he has lost most of it. Andy had untreated allergies exacerbated by kennel stress, but we have him completely vetted and on the mend. Thank you Sendell Subaru for being the purrrfect match maker.

Binx and Althea

Through our partnership with Sendell Subaru, Binx and Althea became foster fails. Their foster mom couldn’t think about bringing them to the Subaru Loves Pets to be adopted, she wanted them to join their family furever. Althea, an 8-month-old stray cat came into the Helping Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue. Her foster mom noticed her belly getting bigger. Althea was expecting! She gave birth to Binx. Unfortunately, the other kitten became stuck in the birth canal and they were rushed to the vet. Althea needed an emergency c-section. Binx was the only surviving kitten from Althea. Since Althea needed surgery, she was unable to feed Binx and he needed to be bottle fed by his foster. Because of the Subaru Loves Pets, it made Binx and Althea’s foster realize that they were already home. Thanks to Heather from Sendell Subaru, we were able to bring to light the love and bond that occurred with these kitties.

Bentley

Sweet Bentley was shot in both rear legs and left in a ditch. Dr. Joel saved his leg and added a plate and screws to his new bionic leg! The other leg needed to be amputated. Bentley’s body started rejecting the metal plate in his bionic leg. It is causing his leg to swell and have small festering sores. He underwent surgery again to remove the plate and remove some more shrapnel. This time, his bones were healed enough that no further surgeries were needed. This has not slowed him down. He is now a thriving tripod. But that doesn't slow him down, he is active and playful. We’ve come to the conclusion that he gains his strength from the souls he sucks out of every stuffie he destroys. He’s left quite the path of death and destruction of stuffies. It’s so substantial that the legend of Bentley the Eviscerator has been heard far and wide and stuffies across all the lands now fear him. If it wasn't for Sendell Subaru, Helping Hearts and Healing Tails would not have found Bentley his furever home. Bentley is now living with a family who adores him. He takes command of the couch and does zoomies, yes zoomies! Just like he would be in a Subaru WRX! Thank you Sendell Subaru.

Diezel loves Sendell Subaru

Through our partnership with Sendell Subaru we hosted Sendell Subaru Loves Pets Event, Saturday October 22nd. Sendell advertised and collected donations throughout the month of October. We brought six of our pets to Sendell Subaru Loves Pets Event, and by the end of the event, Helping Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue and Sendell Subaru helped ten find their perfect, loving home. Thanks to Heather Beck from Sendell Subaru we were able to Collect donations, network and meet with Doolittles Pet Services, Happy Dog Running Company, Westmoreland Bloodhound Team, and B&D Creekside Activity Center. Helping Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue helps all breeds of animals, focusing on those who have medical needs or are homeless, abandoned, and abused. Our goal is to place animals in loving adoptive homes and provide seniors and terminally ill animals with a comfortable and loving home to spend their remaining time. We are completely foster-based rescue, meaning the majority of our animals are placed in homes preparing them for adoption. For those who cannot be placed, we do have board and train facilities that work with us to help the needs of those animals. We are fully run by volunteers and run fully on donations. Rescuing animals will not be possible without the support of our donors like Sendell Subaru. The event at Sendell helped tremendously with veterinary bills, transportation and meeting the day-to-day needs of our rescues. This was an PAWsome opportunity to socialize the dogs. That directly impacts the current 20 available dogs, seven sanctuary dogs, three bunnies, and a bearded dragon. You can bet that the animals that come into Helping Hearts and Healing Tails do help truly see an impact on their lives along with the homes they go to and families they become a part of. Thank you so much for the generosity and support from Sendell Subaru as well as all of those who have helped organize this amazing event. Diezel man came to Sendell Subaru for the day. He enjoyed getting the bloodhounds all worked up and as he ate the dog treats from the K-9 café and looked out the window dreaming of his furever family. Diezel is a handsome man but he has allergies, so he needs a special family to take care of him and his medication. Otherwise, this sweet guy is in great shape. Diezel is about 7 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm and lymes negative, wormed, and microchipped, all the basic needs that the rescue makes sure that all of the animals receive. He’s mostly a couch potato but does enjoy his toys. This hunk of dog was ready when his pictures hit social media from Sendell Subaru Loves Pets Event. Before the event was over, we had an application for this lug. He joined a family with kids to watch Saturday morning cartoons and the treats that he will sneak under the table. Thank you to Diezel's new family and Sendell Subaru Loves Pets Event for making this match.

Our 4th graders were able to experience an afternoon learning about the history of Earth Day, learning of ways to help protect the Earth, and making projects that impact the Earth in a positive way. The students had such a good time and really felt like they were able to make a difference. Some have continued to apply what they learned that day and continued to make a positive impact with projects they have done. Thank you, Sendell Motors and Subaru!

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Sendell Subaru supports The Blackburn Center and the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. This community event brings people together in support of ending domestic, sexual and gender based violence and abuse. The walk is for people of all genders and men are encouraged to wear red, high-heeled shoes. The idea is that when men wear high- heeled shoes and walk a mile in those shoes, they have the opportunity to reflect and get some perspective on what women experience. This community-centric event is important to bring awareness to abuse and violence in our society.

Sendell Subaru- Parks and Trails Supporter

Mother Nature was in charge the morning of March 26th, the 20th annual March for Parks and she played an early April Fool's Day trick on all of the participants. They were met with snow, rain, hail, wind, blizzard conditions and an occasional ray of sunshine to keep their hopes up! But despite the weather (and the power outage throughout the park!) Sendell Subaru was there cheerfully supporting Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation's fundraiser. Sendell has been a sponsor of March for Parks for the last 10 years realizing the importance that recreation and outdoor spaces play in the welfare of our community. We appreciate the effort that Sendell has made to encourage our neighbors to use the resources in our parks, Sendell has also sponsored the Twin Lakes Summer Concert series. Look out for our ride and stop and say Hi if you see us out and about!

Subaru Loves Pets – ANIMAL FRIENDS OF WESTMORELAND

This year, Sendell Subaru invited us to be their partner for the Subaru Loves Pets Campaign for the month of October. Thanks to their help, we were able to find loving homes for 16 dogs that month! One of those lucky dogs was Kermit, a chihuahua mix who was abandoned by his former owners. When Kermit arrived at our shelter in September he was extremely shy and unsure around new people. Whatever trauma he had endured earlier in his life had left it’s scars, and it took time for us to gain trust with little Kermit. Over the several weeks he spent at our adoption center Kermit’s personality began to blossom, and he gradually gained more confidence. On October 23rd, Sendell invited us to bring some of our adoptable pets to their location for an adoption event. It was here that Kermit met the woman who would become his new mom! She actually works at the dealership, and had a senior dog who she was looking for a companion for. She fell in love with Kermit that day, started the adoption paperwork, and welcomed him home soon after. Thanks to Subaru Loves Pets and Sendell Subaru, Kermit is now loving life in his new forever home where he will be loved and spoiled for the rest of his life.

Sharing the Warmth in SWPA

United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania would like to thank Sendell Subaru for spreading the warmth this holiday season! The blankets, socks and financial donation given to our partners at the Welcome Home in Greensburg for their Cold Weather Shelter will make a significant impact on our neighbors experiencing homelessness during the harsh winter months. With more than 500,000 Americans finding themselves homeless each night, we must all do our part to help community members in need. Thank you for this meaningful donation.

Customers Supporting Animal Friends

During the Subaru Loves Pets month, we raised money for Animal Friends of Westmoreland. We stuffed a 1968 Subaru 360 with pet toys and asked customers to guess how many toys were in the Subaru 360. They made a donation to the shelter for a chance to win three oil changes by guessing the correct number of toys. Our customers donated over $350 to the shelter. We love the kindness and generosity of our customers!

We are INCREDIBLY thankful for the support we receive from Sendell Subaru! Their commitment to our community is endless. Not only do the folks at Sendell support us through our Race Sponsorship program, they participate in the races as well. They are a part of our Greater Latrobe Parks & Recreation family. As a non profit in these trying times it is a comfort to know we can depend on the fine folks at Sendell. Our annual Turkey Trot 5K is a cherished tradition in Latrobe, and our biggest fundraiser of the year. Families and friends from all over the country converge on our town to run or walk in the event, and eat turkey with their families after the race. Nearly 1200 people register- with a wide range of ages and abilities participating. It is always a super fun event! Again, we are so thankful for the support we receive from the Sendell team!

Sendell Motors Helps Kids Attend Summer Camp

The Greensburg YMCA would like to convey our sincere gratitude to Sendell Motors for making it possible for local children to attend summer day camp at the Y. During the summer months, child care is an essential need for many families, but for children living in disadvantaged households, it can be a struggle to afford. Our child care programs seek to nurture the potential of all children and youth, regardless of income or background, but we must rely on community support to make this possible. When we reached out to Chris Mohler-King, she graciously agreed to help. With generous sponsors like Sendell Motors, we were able to provide financial assistance for Summer Camp to local families, allowing these children the opportunity to learn new skills, develop new interests and build lasting friendships. This year, we were thrilled to welcome back 151 campers. Sendell Motors helped make this possible, and we appreciate their commitment to improving the lives of children. Thank you for making summer great for all!

SummerSounds returns ... thanks to Sendell Subaru!

After a year of hiding from COVID, the SummerSounds crew decided to produce a later and shortened season of concerts. CASA of Westmoreland wishes to extend our profound appreciation to Sendell Motors for their long-term and continued support of our mission. Their commitment as a CASA Multi-Event Sponsor has made a real difference in our efforts to provide a voice for abused and neglected children in Westmoreland County This past month Sendell Suburu presented CASA of Westmoreland with an amazing donation of $10,000 - a truly remarkable and generous gift that will positively impact the lives and futures of so many deserving children in our community. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Chris Mohler-King and her wonderful team at Sendell Motors for their dedication and heartfelt efforts to help Change A Child's Story. And thank you for making CASA of Westmoreland your hometown charity.

Sendell Sponsors Summer Meal Program

The $10,000 donation made to the Westmoreland County Food Bank is instrumental to the success of the organization’s summer meal program for children. While summer is a fun and exciting time for families, the summer months can be a challenge for families whose children receive free meals at school during the school year. Many families are still recovering from the economic effects of the pandemic and worrying about how they will feed their children when school meals are not readily available can add additional stress and hardship. The Westmoreland County Food Bank hosts a Summer Meal program at sites across the county for 8 weeks during the summer to ensure that all children have enough to eat. Thanks to the generous donation from Sendell Subaru, less children will go to bed hungry this summer. Sendell Subaru will sponsor the expenses of two meals a day for 40 children, 5 days a week, at a Greensburg summer program location. Sendell Subaru’s donation demonstrates their commitment to the community, to the Westmoreland County Food Bank’s mission, and to the health and development of our youngest community members. The Westmoreland County Food Bank greatly appreciates this support and partnership. Together we can ensure that all children have enough to eat, grow, and thrive.

Sendell Changes Local Children's Stories!

From all of us at CASA of Westmoreland, we wish to express our gratitude to our wonderful friends at Sendell Motors for their long-term support of our mission and commitment to helping give a voice to abused and neglected children here in Westmoreland County. Sendell Motors has been an amazing partner, and their generosity and giving spirit have consistently made a difference in the lives of deserving children who need our help. This past year in association with their Share The Love event, Sendell Subaru raised and presented CASA of Westmoreland with an incredible donation of $19,000! Considering the challenges we are facing during this pandemic year, the magnitude of their contribution is truly remarkable. This gift will now go to positively impacting the lives of over a dozen children currently in foster care in our community. CASA wishes to express its deep and profound appreciation to Chris Mohler-King and all the charitable efforts of her thoughtful, dedicated staff at Sendell Motors. Thank you for making CASA of Westmoreland your hometown charity.

Sendell Subaru Walks the Walk!

Blackburn Center’s signature event, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, takes place each April in Greensburg. Over a thousand participants from Westmoreland County and beyond come together to support Blackburn Center's mission to end domestic and sexual violence, and to raise awareness about these issues. Some wear high heels, while others prefer sneakers. Some carry signs, and others walk without signs. One thing they all have in common is a desire to speak out against gender-based violence. Since 2015, Sendell Subaru has teamed up with Blackburn Center to make this unique event a success by becoming a major sponsor. The Walk provides Blackburn Center with much-needed funding to continue the services victims of violence count on, and to expand our community engagement in strategies to end gender-based violence. Blackburn Center provides a hotline that answers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, supportive counseling and therapy, a shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children, support during legal and medical proceedings, and more. Having the endorsement of Sendell Subaru – through financial support and hands- on work the day of the event – showcases their commitment to Westmoreland County and the efforts of Blackburn Center. The Sendell team understands the importance of our services in the community, and they are dedicated to work with us to end violence and abuse.

Sendell Subaru supports the March for Parks

Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board appreciates the support of Sendell Subaru during the annual March for Parks. Sendell Subaru and their team have been active participants in helping to achieve our goal of making our parks and trails a great, safe destination for our residents and visitors. Sendell Subaru was recognized in our 2019 Green Luncheon and our 2020 “virtual luncheon” for their generous contributions to March for Parks.

SENDELL SUBARU PARTNERS FOR COVID-19 FOOD DRIVE

At Sendell Subaru in Greensburg, “It All Starts with the Heart.” Nowhere was the dealership’s spirit of generosity and caring more evident than this spring when employees and ownership supported a monumentally successful COVID-19 food drive for local families in need.In partnership with the media company Entercom-Pittsburgh and regional grocery store chain Giant Eagle, Sendell Subaru served as a major sponsor for the “Feed the Need Radiothon,” that raised funds to provide more than 1.65 million meals for people suffering economic hardships.. The “Feed the Need” fundraiser, which benefitted the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, was broadcast live on several Entercom stations on Tuesday, April 14 when listeners were encouraged to donate online and via phone call or text message. “It’s days like today that make you so proud to be a Pittsburgher,” said Michael Spacciapolli, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Pittsburgh. According to reports from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, the need for help has never been greater with so many families and workers being displaced from employment by the pandemic. In fact, the Food Bank experienced a five and half fold increase in the number of people coming to the warehouse for support earlier this spring. “Supporting community members in times of great need through initiatives like this is very much aligned with the Subaru brand and totally consistent with the culture and mindset of the employees, ownership, and customers here at Sendell Subaru,” says Christine Mohler-King, Owner/General Manager of Sendell Subaru in Greensburg. “It was our pleasure to be able to do what we could to help make a difference.”

Sendell Subaru is Top Banana

Even though the banana split was invented over a century ago, the Great American Banana Split Celebration began scooping up fun less than 10 years ago. Nevertheless, Sendell Subaru is one of the event's longest running partnerships, helping to attract some of the best entertainment in the region to Latrobe to perform. We've been fortunate to have talent like the party rock cover band Vertigo Red, country music singer Kellie Pickler, and Pittsburgh bands such as The Commonheart, and Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers each headlining the Sendell Entertainment Stage. It's because of the partnership with Sendell that we've filled the timeslots on their stage with demand for additional time from other performers. In response, the celebration has added two additional stages filled with free entertainment over the years to compliment the growing list of other activities happening during the weekend. We want to especially recognize Chris Mohler-King and Henry Bachorski -- Henry has secured some of the bands to perform during the weekend and even played at the event himself! A huge thanks to the entire team at Sendell Subaru for supporting the City of Latrobe's Banana Split Celebration and making it One Sweet Weekend!

Sendell Subaru and the Leukemia and Lymphoma

Sendell Subaru joined with other Subaru retailers in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Light the Night Walk on October 17th. The Subaru retailers in Pittsburgh signed a new 2020 Subaru Outback at their individual stores, offering words of encouragement to all those fighting cancer. We had a team from our store walking in support.

Sendell Subaru - our community sparkplug

A few folks started a free concert series in our local park years ago. It grew like crazy and is now nationally recognized for excellence. As it grew, so did our budget and so we sought local business support to fund the project and keep it free to the public. Even with 30,000 visitors a year we still run it with less than 50 volunteers and only 10 of us set up and tear down the stage each week. Brainstorming one day after setup, I noticed 6 Subaru Outbacks among our 10 cars. Aha! So we visited Chris Mohler at Sendell Subaru, where all but one of our Subies came from, and asked if they'd help out. Oh yeah! And they helped out a lot. The dealership manager, Henry Bachorski, is a musician himself and, pairing with local singers, has opened for four of our major touring acts. This year, Sendell Subaru helped us fund Leonid and Friends, a killer Chicago tribute band from Moscow. Over 8,000 people came to that show! There was a LOT of love for and from Subaru that day. We couldn't have pulled it off without Sendell Subaru! What great neighbors they are. They support several other well-run LOCAL charities as well and are just the nicest folks to buy cars from. SummerSounds feels the love! Oh, did I mention that at least 8 of us now own and LOVE our Subies?

Mountain View Elem. Sch. receives 150 books!

Thank you to Sendell Subaru for donating 150 books to Mountain View Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year! The books are a part of the Subaru Loves Learning Book Donation Program where award winning books are given to schools to engage young learners in the world of science and inspire them to want to learn more. These books are designed to supplement existing curriculum by supporting K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, while also helping to build reading and literacy skills. Mountain View Elementary students and Principal Becki Pellis accepted the books that were personally delivered by Sendell Subaru staff. On July 23, a team from Sendell Subaru including owners Chris King and Bill Mohler, Henry Bachorski, Heather Beck, John Bistline, and Jayson Miller, personally delivered a donation of 80 brand-new blankets to Arnold Palmer Cancer Center in Greensburg. Jim Beck, Senior Vice President of Hefren-Tillotson and an LLS Board member, was on hand to thank Sendell for their generosity. The blankets will be distributed to patients receiving chemotherapy or other oncology treatments. The cancer center staff was greatly appreciative of Sendell’s contribution, saying that they were honored to be chosen as a partner to receive the blankets again. Their patients always mention how they not only love the blankets, but that they’re also touched that Sendell Subaru takes the time to give back to the community. LLS owes a debt of gratitude to everyone at Sendell Subaru for making this program possible. Thank you for continuing to join us in our mission to cure blood cancers and to improve the lives of patients and their families throughout our local communities.

Best Purchase Ever

Sendell is the greatest place to purchase a Subaru. My salesperson, Jim, has sold my family all of their Subaru's (7 in total within the past years), and has been nothing but helpful and reassuring. Whenever I had gone back to learn more about my Forester's technology, Jay made sure I understood absolutely everything about the car. He was extremely helpful and a super fun guy to talk to! They went above and beyond to make sure I got everything I had wanted and needed. Thanks for everything! :)

Sendell Subaru, in partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), recently provided a much-needed donation to the Arnold Palmer Pavilion. On July 10, representatives from the dealership delivered “care cards” hand-written by customers and 80 blankets to the Greensburg-based cancer center. The cards and blankets will be distributed to patients receiving chemotherapy, who often get cold during treatment, making the blankets a source of comfort even in the middle of a warm summer. LLS Board member and Senior Vice President of Hefren-Tillotson Jim Beck also made time to stop by and help with the blanket delivery. The nurses at the Arnold Palmer Pavilion enthusiastically thanked the Sendell team, telling Bill and Chris how much the patients love the blankets, and how this gesture brightens the day for so many people. The Arnold Palmer Pavilion medical staff are testing so many patients in the community that they estimated that the blankets would probably all be given away in only a day or two.Thank you, Sendell Subaru and Subaru of America, for partnering with LLS on this program for three wonderful years! Joy for Me, Joy for Others

Meet Callie (short for Caledonia, honoring her Scots heritage), a Shetland Sheep Dog who was a purchased puppy, but who "adopted" me by curling in my lap, falling asleep the day we met. Callie's sweet personality, never having met another human she doesn't love, are the characteristics that show how well-suited she is to becoming a Therapy Pet. We will continue with her training, eventually taking that love to those in need of that rich & unconditional loving some special dogs can offer to those in need of healing & comfort.

We are the sponsors of the Adoptable Pet of the Week for our friends at Animal Friends of Westmoreland. Typically, the animals showcased on WHJB (a local radio station) during the Adoptable Pet of the Week are the more difficult to place animals or the ones that have been at the no-kill shelter for an extended period of time. We are happy to report that more than 25 of these animals highlighted during the program have found their forever homes. In addition to our weekly support, we pledged $25 to the no-kill shelter for every new Subaru sold in June, as part of our Grand Opening celebration. We were happy to give a donation of $1400 last week in support of this great animal shelter.

The Survivor Meets the Patient

Brother-and-sister team Bill Mohler and Chris Mohler-King, owners of Sendell Subaru, joined our 2016 Girl of the Year Olivia at The Arnold Palmer Cancer Pavilion in Greensburg, PA, to pass out #SubaruLovesToCare blankets delivered via a Subaru Outback! Olivia is not only a special needs child, but is also currently in remission from acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Olivia was diagnosed in June 2006, shortly after she turned two years old. However, Olivia’s journey began the day she was born. Her blood work revealed blast cells, so the next two years brought countless lab visits which involved tracking and monitoring her blood work. After her formal Leukemia diagnosis, what was thought to be her final round of chemo in December 2006, a relapse in October 2007, and her first bone marrow transplant in February 2008, Olivia just celebrated her 12th birthday and is ready to tackle the world. Karen, pictured, was receiving chemo during our visit. She told her nurse that she would be happy to join us for a photo to thank Sendell for thinking of her and all cancer patients by donating these blankets which will keep them all warm during treatment. Without hesitation, Karen grabbed her blanket and chemo pole and headed outside to get in the picture with her nurse following quickly behind. If you look closely, you can see Karen’s pole and IV bag in the photo!
